According to Ray Anderson, the companys journey to sustainability started in 1994. During this time, Ray Anderson was the CEO of the company and started the campaign towards industrial companies sustainability. Ray Anderson says that business should adopt business models that protect the environment by use of renewable energy and recycling resources. He argues that business should take responsibility and protect the future generations by engaging in sustainable business. He suggests that business should gain economical value by doing no harm to earth. According to the Interface vision and mission to sustainability, the driving factors to sustainability initiatives are customers and responsible business engagement. Customers triggered the company to research about it impact on the environment. The customers questioned what the company was doing about the environment. The company also recorded increased number of customers when it engaged in sustainable operation. Another key driver to sustainability is desire to leave the world better that the way they started.
